Born and raised in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, John began playing guitar at 14.  He studied, at a local music store in town, with Bob Hayes, a fabulous blues guitarist originally from Detroit.  After high school John decided to pursue a music degree at Eastern Michigan University.  For the next 4 and 1/2 years I studied classical guitar under the guidance of Nelson Amos, PHD.  He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Music in the spring of 1997.   During the first 8 years on the guitar he played and performed with 2 bands.  The last of the 2 bands moved to Colorado where he continued to perform and live until 2004.  It was the last year and a half, in Colorado, that he had joined a bluegrass band and focused on the bass guitar.  At that time he also took up the mandolin.  In the summer of 2004 moved to New Hampshire with his wife and son.  John currently teaches at Blue Mountain Guitar in West Lebanon as well as at his studio in Grantham, NH.  His students range from 5 to 70 some years old.  He teaches sight-reading, music theory, and songs in all styles all of which are centered on the student’s interests and goals. His lessons are in high demand as he is currently teaching 40 students.  You can hear him locally, performing with The Shana Stack Band, as well as sitting in with other local musicians.  In John’s words: “It is a blessing to do what I do with the support that I have, and I live to share it with others.”
