Violin/Fiddle For more information Contact Beth [email protected] Beth Telford began playing classical violin at age eight, eventually serving as the concertmaster of the Rhode Island Youth Orchestra and All-State Orchestra. She was invited to play with the Brown University orchestra at the age of fourteen and played with them for several years. |
In her late teens and early 20's she discovered the world of traditional music, which has since been her musical focus. She began playing dances and coffeehouses and private events throughout New England. Armed with a BS in Natural Resources, Beth moved to Vermont in 1983 and continued performing at dances and events.
Beth specializes in Celtic music, particularly the music of Cape Breton, and was mentored by the legendary Cape Breton fiddler, Jerry Holland. Their work together was sponsored in part by the Vermont Folk life Center. Beth and Jerry held twice yearly fiddle and dance camps which she has continued to run since Jerry's untimely death in 2009.
In addition to playing concerts, dances and weddings, Beth has taught fiddle to scores of area students of all ages and has run a Cape Breton fiddle and dance camp for many years.
Beth teaches fiddle of all levels, as well as beginning classical students. she utilizes both ear training and music reading in her teaching.
